Your school based mental health team is dedicated to the overall success and wellness of the students in our school community. We understand that in order for a student to do well academically he or she has to be able to identify and regulate their emotions, make good decisions, and organize themselves which is not always easy. Most students need extra support to make this happen which is normal- we all need help to be our best. Your school based mental health team is dedicated to identifying student strengths and needs and connecting them with school and community based supports that will help them to thrive. Some of these supports include school based counseling/therapy, group counseling, mediations to work through conflict with others, mentoring, and more. These supports are also called interventions and are designed to help students learn to express themselves (through emotions and actions) in a positive way. Out of respect for you as your students' caretaker and a desire to be a part of your student’s “village” we will communicate openly with you about your students strengths, needs, and supports as they are working to become the best versions of themselves.
School Counselors
Our dedicated team of school counselors is committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our middle school students. We strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, heard, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
Role of School Counselors:
Academic Guidance: Our school counselors provide academic support and guidance to help students succeed in their studies. We work closely with students, parents, and teachers to identify academic strengths and areas for growth, develop personalized learning plans, and set realistic goals.
Social and Emotional Support: Middle school can be a time of change and transition for students. Our counselors are here to provide a safe space for students to talk about their feelings, concerns, and challenges. We offer social-emotional learning programs and strategies to promote resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships.
Individual Counseling: We offer one-on-one counseling sessions for students who may be experiencing personal difficulties, such as anxiety, stress, or peer conflicts. Our counselors are trained to provide support, guidance, and resources to help students navigate through challenging situations.
Group Counseling: Group counseling sessions allow students to connect with their peers, share experiences, and learn from one another. These small group settings are an excellent way for students to build social skills, develop empathy, and create a supportive network.
College and Career Readiness: Our school counselors help students explore their interests and career aspirations. We offer resources and information about post-secondary education options, scholarships, and career pathways to prepare students for their future endeavors.
Conflict Resolution: We promote a positive and respectful school climate by assisting students in resolving conflicts through mediation and effective communication strategies. We encourage students to embrace empathy and problem-solving skills to build harmonious relationships.
Parent and Teacher Collaboration: Our counselors work collaboratively with parents and teachers to ensure that students receive comprehensive support. We value open communication and partnership with families to create a united approach to students' well-being and success.
504 Coordinators: As 504 Coordinators, counselors are responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and approving the development of 504 Plans. The counselors have the role of decision-maker, consultant, and specialist in advising administrators, teachers, and other professional personnel in the development and implementation of 504 Plans. Counselors will also monitor the overall effectiveness of student plans and ensure all are implemented within federal, state, and local regulations.
At the Middle School of Excellence, our school counselors are dedicated to promoting a culture of kindness, respect, and academic excellence. We believe that a strong support system enhances students' overall well-being and positively impacts their academic achievements.
