Welcome to the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center at the School of Innovation!
Our 21st Century Program is a dynamic and innovative initiative designed to provide enriching experiences for middle school students beyond the regular school day. We believe that learning doesn't stop when the final bell rings, and our program aims to foster a passion for exploration and creativity.
The program focuses on three goals:
Goal #1: Improve school attendance and increase academic achievement of participating students in one or more academic areas.
Goal #2: Increase school connectedness of participants, including families, caregivers, and school teachers and staff.
Goal #3: Increase the capacity of participants to become productive adults.
Program Highlights:
-
Project-Based Learning: Our students engage in hands-on projects that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. These real-world projects empower them to apply their knowledge and skills to meaningful tasks.
-
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics): We integrate STEAM activities throughout the program to nurture a well-rounded and interdisciplinary approach to learning. From coding and robotics to art and design challenges, students are encouraged to explore their interests and talents.
-
Enriching Workshops: Our program offers a diverse range of workshops led by experienced professionals and educators. These workshops cover various areas, such as entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, performing arts, and more, providing students with unique learning opportunities.
-
Community Service: We believe in instilling a sense of civic responsibility in our students. Through community service projects, they have the chance to make a positive impact in their local community and develop empathy and compassion.
-
Digital Literacy: In this technology-driven era, digital literacy is essential. Our program includes activities that enhance students' digital skills, ensuring they are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
-
Outdoor Education: Nature is a powerful classroom, and we embrace the benefits of outdoor education. Our students participate in outdoor activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and an appreciation for the environment.
-
College and Career Readiness: As students progress through middle school, we prepare them for future success. Our program includes workshops on study skills, time management, and career exploration, equipping them with essential tools for their academic and professional journey.
Join us in this exciting adventure of learning and growth! Our 21st Century Program is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for all students. Together, we aim to inspire a love for learning and empower our students to become confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals.
